TC Central’s Julia Flynn Signs with Stanford for Cross Country

TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City Central cross country star Julia Flynn has signed with Stanford.

Flynn ran the second-fastest time in Division 1 at the state finals meet this fall. She also won the Miss Cross Country Award for running the fastest time for a senior.

Flynn chose Stanford over Duke and Michigan. She said she fell in love with Stanford when she took her official visit there this fall.

“Stanford seemed really unique because I just want to become the best athlete that I can and in my mind you can only become better when you train with the best. They just seemed really like amazing athletes and amazing people. I just really want to surround myself with that and I’m really excited to join the team and be surrounded by positive, fast athletes,” said Flynn.

Flynn also added she’s thankful to TC Central cross country for introducing her to some of her best friends and giving her an outlet to have fun and push herself during covid-19.

Flynn helped lead girls cross country team to a MHSAA Division 1 state runner-up finish in 2019.

She also became the first high school girls cross country runner in the country in 2020 to complete a 5K run in under 17 minutes. Flynn accomplished the feat at Benzie Central’s Pete Moss Invitational.

As a sophomore, Flynn finished third as an individual at the 2019 MHSAA Lower Peninsula Division 1 finals.
