Benzie Central’s Hubbell Signs with Oakland University for Soccer

BENZONIA – Benzie Central senior Kevin Hubbell has signed to continue playing soccer at Oakland University.

Hubbell drew national attention earlier this year when he set the state and national record for goals scored in a single game with 16. The state’s previous record was 10.

Hubbell said he chose Oakland over South Carolina Upstate and Detroit Mercy, crediting all of his success to his time at Benzie.

“I had a couple other options that were out of state. Eight hours away, 16 hours away and I just thought it’d be best if I was in Michigan so my brothers and sisters can support me. I’m very thankful and grateful that I’ve been able to do this playing at Benzie. It’s my hometown, I’ve always been in the Benzie schools. So just being able to have this opportunity to play for my hometown, it’s been pretty great,” said Hubbell.

As a two-sport athlete, he also added it’s a relief to have his college decision take care of so he can focus on the rest of the Huskies’ basketball season.
