Montabella Boys Hoops Improves to 11-1, Tied for First in Mid-State Activities Conference
MONTABELLA – After finishing under .500 last season, Montabella boys basketball is surprising the Mid-State Activities Conference with an 11-1 start to the season.
The Mustangs are tied for the conference lead with Carson City-Crystal and both teams are 9-1 in MSAC play. The game against the Eagles earlier this season is the only defeat on Montabella’s record, losing 45-42.
Montabella also has a young roster with just two seniors and the team said they hope this is the first step in establishing their program as consistently one of the best in the area.
“We feel like we can seriously do some damage in the post-season this year and next year, and we want to parlay that and we want Montabella to become a program that is is a household name. And I think we’re making great strides towards that,” said Montabella junior J.T. Smith.
“They practice hard. They make each other better every day, they keep each other encouraged and hold each other accountable at the same time. So it’s been a really fun group to coach and see them progress,” said Montabella head boys basketball coach Jared Simon.
Up next, Montabella will continue conference play at Coleman (4-9) on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
