Ferris State Falls to Lewis In Softball Home Opener

BIG RAPIDS — Ferris State hosted Lewis for a doubleheader in softball, with the Bulldogs losing their first two home games of the season, 6-2 and 3-0.

The Bulldogs’ day started well with a first-inning home run by Paige Kortz, bringing her GLIAC lead to six home runs on the season. However, the Flyers responded with two runs in the next inning with an RBI double by Maggie Joutras and an error to score the second run.

Lewis built on that lead in the fourth with a pair of 2-RBI doubles by Gabi Nilles and Evie Calderon.

The Flyers kept up the scoring in the second game, starting the game with an RBI triple by Delaney Garden in the first inning. Calderon drove her in from third on a sacrifice fly to give Lewis the quick 2-0 lead.

Despite matching the Flyers with nine hits, Ferris State couldn’t score a run in the second game.

The Bulldogs fall to 9-14 overall on the season, and they’ll look to bounce back on Thursday with their first conference games against Wayne State on the road. The doubleheader will start at 3 p.m.
