Ferris State Women’s Basketball Prepares for Sixth NCAA Tournament Appearance

The Ferris State women’s basketball team earned the No. 8 seed in the Midwest Region of the 2022 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Ferris State (22-9) will play top-seeded Ashland (28-2) in the first round on Friday.

The Bulldogs received an automatic bid with their GLIAC Tournament Championship win over No. 2 Grand Valley State.

The win capped off a GLIAC Tournament run in which the Bulldogs won three games in five days.

“We came off a big weekend, so [we’re focusing on] recuperation,” senior Adrienne Anderson said earlier this week. “But we’re really going after them. We did scout, we did film today. We’re really making sure we’re going over their plays, going over what we’re going to do. We’re ready for them.”

Ferris State made the tournament in the 2019-20 season but the tournament was canceled by the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I think it’ll hit our girls that we’re part of that experience once we show up to the gym and see all the fans in the gym,” head coach Kurt Westendorp said. “I think it’ll kind of sink into them that it’s like, okay, [the girls have] earned that opportunity twice now.”

The Bulldogs game against Ashland will tip off at 5 p.m. on Friday in Ashland, Ohio.
