Rebandt Returns for Fourth Season with Pit Spitters

TRAVERSE CITY — Pit Spitters manager Josh Rebandt will return to Traverse City for a fourth season, looking to help the team keep their streak of Northwoods League championship titles alive.

Rebandt has been with the team since their start in 2019, leading them to a 136-59 record. They won league titles in 2019 and 2021. In 2020, the league played in regional pods due to COVID-19.

He has also helped five Pit Spitters get drafted in the MLB and two others sign as free agents. He said helping those players, along with the atmosphere in T.C., convinced him to come back.

“It’s a fun environment being at Turtle Creek Stadium. No matter what night of the week it is, you know, I feel like we get some really good fan support,” Rebandt said. “So I would say that’s a big plus and also to just being a part of the guys’ player development. You know, my main goal as manager of the team is just to send them back to the programs better than when they got here to Traverse City.”

Joining Rebandt on the staff will be two coaches familiar with the Northwoods League. Tucker Waddups will be the pitching coach and Casey Wila will be the hittingĀ  coach.

Waddups was the pitching coach of the Kokomo Jackrabbits in 2021, and he is currently serving that role at Mount Vernon Nazarene in Ohio. Wila was the hitting coach of the Great Lakes Resorters when they competed in Traverse City in 2020. He’s an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Aquinas College.

The Pit Spitters’ first game is on Monday, May 30, against Battle Creek on the road. They’ll play in their home opener on June 3 at 7:05 p.m.
