Beal City Softball Stuns Six-Time District Champ Coleman 14-10 in First Round of Playoffs

BLANCHARD – After trailing 5-2 in the 4th inning, Beal City softball stormed back to defeat Coleman 14-10 in a gritty Div. 4 district opener on Tuesday night.

With the decisive win, the Aggies stifle the Comets’ quest for a seventh straight district championship this season, as Coleman ends the year 20-13 overall.

The Comets’ Katelyn Pnacek blasted a solo homerun to give Coleman a 4-0 lead.

Beal City recorded a total of 11 hits on the night to help them rally from a 4-0 deficit after two innings.

Eva Lynch finished with 2 singles, 1 double and 3 RBI. Emily Taylor was 3-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Macy Johnston’s two-run double lifted the Aggies to take a 6-5 lead in the 4th inning.

Senior pitcher Karly Smith recorded the win, going 6.2 innings with 4 strikeouts.

Coleman made some noise late in the 6th to come within three, but Beal City kept the Comets at bay and sealed the victory with a double play.

Beal City will next face rival Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart in the Division 4 district semifinal on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Montabella.
