MISportsNow Top Plays: Week of 05/23-05/29

District tournaments in girls soccer and regionals in boys lacrosse got underway this week.

It was also the end of the regular season for the majority of high school baseball and softball teams in the area.

Let’s take a look at some of the week’s top plays as the stakes get higher:

5. Quinn McMillan wins the faceoff and drives right in to score in TC United’s 21-6 win over Grand Blanc in the regional semifinals.

4. Rudyard pitcher Brett Mayer slips and falls while fielding a ground ball but still makes the throw from the seat of his pants for the out. The Bulldogs swept Brimley on Wednesday night.

3. Traverse City St. Francis’ Brooke Meeker hits two home runs in the Gladiators’ doubleheader sweep of Elk Rapids. The sweep clinches the conference championship for St. Francis.

2. Beal City’s Cayden Smith makes a diving stop in the hole between third and short, rises and fires across for the out in a 12-0 win over Hudson. Beal City would drop the second game 2-1 to split the doubleheader.

1. Traverse City West’s Beatrice Rooks places a perfect shot just out of reach for the outstretched goalkeeper. It hits off the post and in for the goal in the Titans’ 4-1 win over Midland in the district opener.
