Shepherd Softball Eyes Deep Postseason Run in 2022
SHEPHERD – The Shepherd softball team got off to a fast start this season, and now as the playoffs draw near, the Bluejays look to continue the solid play right into districts.
Last season, the Bluejays made it to the Division 3 state quarterfinals. This year, Shepherd has won 13 of its first 17 games and now holds a 15-8-1 overall record.
And with the bulk of their remaining schedule as Jack Pine Conference matchups, the team said these final weeks before playoffs are crucial.
“Our goal is, is just to prepare ourselves, you know, to be ready to go in June and, of course, win our conference. But we know the big picture is, you know, the district state tournament and beyond,” said Shepherd softball head coach Steven Loonsfoot.
“Our goal is to win a state championship. That’s what we got our eyes set on. But we’re moving it one thing at a time. We want to be conference champs, district champs, regional champs and then make it to states again,” said Shepherd senior Janelle Yarnell.
Shepherd defeated Clare 8-2 in game one of Thursday’s doubleheader.
