Ann Arbor’s Patrick Wilkes-Krier Holds Solo Lead After First Round of Michigan Open

TRAVERSE CITY – Ann Arbor’s Patrick Wilkes-Krier holds the solo lead after shooting 8-under par in the first round of the 105th Michigan Open Championship at Grand Traverse Resort on Monday.

The University of Michigan assistant golf coach is making his second consecutive appearance in the tournament after finishing in second place last year.

Pickney’s Kyle Dobbs and Westland’s Donnie Trosper ended day one tied for second place at 5-under.

Jake Kneen won this event in 2018 and finished round one in tied for 4th place at 4-under. Traverse City native Scott Hebert is also tied for 4th as well as Stanwood’s Pierce Morrissey.

Traverse City’s Randall Hutchison also breaks the top 10 leaderboard after the first day of play, finishing round one tied for 7th at 3-under par with Matthew Thompson out of Jonesville.

Michigan State’s Bradley Smithson is the defending champ of the Michigan Open. Smithson ended the day at minus 2 and tied for 9th along with fellow local golfer Blaze Hogan out of Big Rapids.

Round 2 of the Michigan Open is set to tee off at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
