Local Golfers Prepare for Next Week’s Michigan Women’s Open
THOMPSONVILLE — Some of the best female golfers in the state of Michigan will once again make their way to Crystal Mountain Resort next week to compete in the Michigan Women’s Open.
The tournament will be held on the Mountain Ridge Course at Crystal Mountain for the 20th year.
There will be 74 golfers competing in the 54-hole tournament next week, including Anika and Anci Dy, two sisters from Traverse City.
Anika Dy won the tournament in 2019. She is one of three former champions returning, as 2020 champion Sarah Burnham and 3-time champion Suzy Green-Roebuck are back.
“I think this is one of my favorite tournaments of the year just because it’s on my old home course. I feel super comfortable there,” Anika Dy said. “I really like the course, so I’m really excited.”
Anci Dy is coming off a win over her sister in the Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship last week. She’s looking for a chance to win her first Michigan Women’s Open.
“(Anika) was 17 when she won it, still in high school, and that was just super awesome. I mean, nobody can top that, I think,” Anci Dy said. “But it definitely pushed me to want that win at the home course, want that win near our community and for our community. So it’s definitely on the bucket list.”
The tournament will run from Monday to Wednesday, and it is free to the public.
