Pistons Select Purdue’s Jaden Ivey with the No. 5 Overall Pick

The Detroit Pistons selected Purdue point guard Jaden Ivey with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft Thursday night.

Ivey, a 6-foot-4 guard, averaged 17.3 points and 3.1 assists per game in his sophomore year with the Boilermakers, shooting 46% from the field and 35.8% from beyond the arc.

Detroit adds another talented, young guard to its backcourt, which already features Cade Cunningham. He was the top overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, and he averaged 17.4 points per game along with 5.5 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game.

The Pistons then to acquire Memphis big man Jalen Duren and Knicks point guard Kemba Walker. Detroit gave up the 2025 first round pick they acquired in the Jerami Grant trade, sending that pick to Charlotte. The Pistons are to make him a free agent.

Duren provides more athleticism for the Pistons in the frontcourt. The 6-foot-11 big man averaged 12.0 points and 8.1 rebounds as a freshman.

The Pistons also own the 46th overall pick in the second round of the draft.
