Pit Spitters Fall to Growlers 7-4 at LMCU Ballpark

COMSTOCK PARK – The Traverse City Pit Spitters lost 7-4 to the Kalamazoo Growlers on Wednesday night in a game played at LMCU Ballpark, the home of the West Michigan Whitecaps.

The Whitecaps and Pit Spitters are under the same ownership and this was a game that has been in the works for several years. The Pit Spitters hoped to play a game at LMCU Ballpark in 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to change course.  The hope is for this game to become an annual event.

As for the game itself, the Growlers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and the Pit Spitters were held to just one hit through the first five innings.

Traverse City scored three runs in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single by Jake Smallwood and a two-run single by Sam Tackett. But the Pit Spitters could not complete the comeback.

With the loss, the Pit Spitters fall to 10-14 this season. They will begin a two game series in Kokomo tomorrow at 6:35 p.m.
