Sacred Heart’s Postseason Run Ends in Semifinals in Softball

EAST LANSING — Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart had its postseason run come to an end against Ottawa Lake Whiteford on Friday, losing, 10-0, in five innings in the Division 4 state semifinal.

The Irish ran into trouble in the first two innings, as the Bobcats jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead, scoring seven runs in the second frame. Berlynn Keller had a big day at the plate for Whiteford, with a home run, RBI and two runs scored.

Sacred Heart couldn’t find a groove offensively against Whiteford’s Unity Nelson, getting just two hits and striking out 11 times. Anna Terwilliger and Jordan Hosking had the lone hits for the Irish.

Despite the tough finish, the Irish put together one of its best seasons in program history. They made their first trip to the semifinals since 2012 and their third overall. They finish the year as conference, district and regional champs, and they wrap up the season with a 27-12 record.
