It was a late night for Central Michigan pitcher Andrew Taylor but around 12:30 a.m. E.T. on Monday morning, the moment every baseball player dreams of happened for Taylor as his name was called at the 2022 MLB Draft.

The Houston Astros selected Taylor with the 80th overall pick, the final selection of the first night of the draft.

Taylor, a 6-foot-5 sophomore from Caledonia High School, went 8-4 for the Chippewas in 2022 with a 3.21 ERA in 84 innings pitched.

Taylor also set Central Michigan’s program record for single-season strikeouts with 125 as a freshman. He then broke his own record with 126 as a sophomore.

MLB.com had Taylor ranked as the 156th overall prospect in this draft.

He is the first Central Michigan pitcher to be selected in the first four rounds of the draft since Kevin Tapani in 1986.
