BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State began fall practices on Monday and Bulldog coaches and athletes will soon have access to new and improved facilities.
The university is finishing up facilities upgrades that include a new volleyball arena and strength and conditioning facility.
It’s easy to argue that last fall was the most successful fall sports season in Ferris State history. The football team won the D-II National Championship, the women’s soccer team won its first GLIAC Tournament Championship by upsetting eventual national champion Grand Valley State and the volleyball team won the GLIAC Tournament for the seventh time in the past eight years.
With all the success the programs have had, the coaches said it means a lot to see the university invest in enhancing the experience for their athletes.
“The fact that they’re making that investment is really exciting,” said head volleyball coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm. “To have a university that prioritizes volleyball to make sure that we have this space that we can compete in is humbling and honoring.”
“Everybody is using athletic teams for university growth,” said head football coach Tony Annese. “So hopefully we can continue to promote that because the success we’ve had in the athletic arena here in this athletic department, wow! So I’m proud of all of them. I’m proud of all the teams.”
“We have a lot of programs that are championship caliber and now they’re going to have championship-caliber facilities,” added head women’s soccer coach Greg Henson.
