Former Michigan Basketball Coach Beilein Visits Petoskey

PETOSKEY — Former Michigan men’s basketball head coach John Beilein visited Petoskey on Thursday to speak at the Perry Hotel, helping raise money for a local scholarship fund.

Beilein coached the Wolverines from 2007 to 2019, leading them to a pair of national championship appearances.

He currently works with the Pistons as a Senior Player Development Advisor, and following the Pistons’ offeseason moves, he likes what he sees in Detroit.

“In the NBA, you’ve got to get lucky. You have to have a season with limited injuries to the right players. You’ve got to just have some nights where you steal some wins here and there and just move on to the next game,” Beilein said. “But I do like the direction we’re going. And we have great leadership in the front office, Coach (Dwane) Casey. I really believe in us.”

Beilein is the winningest head coach in Michigan men’s basketball history.
