Lundteigen Reflects on All-American Ski Season

MARQUETTE — Petoskey alum Garret Lundteigen competed in his first full ski season at Northern Michigan University this year, and he finished in fourth place at the USCSA Nationals to earn First Team All-American honors.

Lundteigen, who initially went to NMU to play football, had a ton of success in skiing in high school. He was a four-time First Team All-State honoree along with helping his team win a state title four times. He was excited to get another shot at skiing and to have this success in 2022.

“I was standing at the finish line and the next time we’re going out, my dad or one of the other coaches was like, ‘Hey, you’re First Team All-American. And I was like, ‘Oh!’ It’s awesome, you know?” Lundteigen said. “And I was just so happy. Years of training and years of training, I mean, since I was like four, you know? What an experience.”

Lundteigen was also a First Team Scholar All-American this year.

After this past season, he plans to stay at NMU as an assistant coach for the ski team. His dad, Erik Lundteigen, is the head coach and was hired at the start of the program in 2020. He led Petoskey to six state titles as their head coach from 2013-2020.
