Pit Spitters Announce Playoff Schedule, Ticket Information
TRAVERSE CITY — For the third time in four years, the Traverse City Pit Spitters will compete in the Northwoods League playoffs, beginning on Sunday. The Pit Spitters will take on the Kalamazoo Growlers in the first round.
The first game will be on Sunday, Aug. 14, at 5:05 p.m. in Kalamazoo. The second game will be on Monday, Aug. 15, at 7:05 p.m. in Traverse City. If necessary, the third game will be on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 7:05 p.m. in Traverse City as well.
Tickets for the Pit Spitters’ first home playoff game will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The first 1,000 fans will receive Pit Spitters Playoff Rally Towels. Tickets are the same prices as regular season games.
The Growlers won the first half of the season with a 22-14 record, but went 12-21 in the second half. The Pit Spitters finished tied for second in the first half with an 18-18 record and went 25-8 in the second half to secure the postseason spot. The Pit Spitters went 9-3 against the Growlers this regular season. Traverse City has won two championships in their previous trips to the playoffs.
The winner of the first round series will advance to a one-game series in the second round. The team with the best overall record hosts that game. The championship will either be on Thursday, Aug. 19, or Friday, Aug. 20, depending on the travel time with the team with the best overall record hosting.
The Pit Spitters have the fifth-best overall record in the Northwoods League based on win percentage. The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are the only team in the Great Lakes with a better overall record than them. St. Cloud, Wilmar and Eau Claire have better win percentages than the Pit Spitters in the Great Plains. The Northwoods League standings can be found on their website.
