TC West Prepares for First Season in Saginaw Valley League

TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City West will play its first season in the Saginaw Valley League this fall after many years in the Big North.

The Titans went 6-4 last year, falling to Grandville in the first round of districts. The Titans have had six consecutive winning seasons but have been unable to claim a district title.

Traverse City West and rival Traverse City Central both made the move to the Saginaw Valley League North this year. The rest of the conference is made up of Midland, Midland Dow, Bay City Central, Bay City Western and Mount Pleasant.

“I think overall our kids and the people around the program are pretty excited about going to see a different conference and some top level competition,” said head coach Greg Vaughn.

The rivalry game against Traverse City Central will be the final game of the regular season this year. The Titans said everybody looks forward to that game, but they’re taking it one day at a time as they prepare for the new conference opponents.

“I like it. [For] a lot of us, it’s a new start,” said junior Isaac Kelsey. “We can leave the BNC behind us and move on to better things and hopefully accomplish our goals.”
