Chippewas Struggle in Home Opener, Take Loss to South Alabama

MT. PLEASANT — The Central Michigan Chippewas took a loss in the home opener to the South Alabama Jaguars, 38-24.

The only time CMU took a lead, was late in the first quarter. Lew Nichols with the 5-yard rush into the endzone and the successful field goal from Marshall Meeder brought the game to a one point difference.

In a comeback attempt, CMU scored two touchdowns in the last 10 minutes of the game, but South Alabama held off the Chippewas.

CMU plays at home on Saturday Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. against Bucknell.
