Ferris State Hockey Prepares For Home Opener

BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State hockey team will play its home opener on Friday night against Michigan Tech.

The Bulldogs started the season on the road last weekend against Miami (Ohio), playing to a 2-2 tie with the Redhawks on Saturday night before falling to them 4-1 on Sunday.

The Bulldog hockey program has struggled the last few years, bottoming out in 2020-21 with a record of 1-23-1. Ferris State took a step in the right direction last season by finishing 11-24-1 and expects to be much improved again this winter.

“I really like this year’s team. Are we a ready-made product? No, we’ve got work to do,” Ferris State head coach Bob Daniels said. “But what a great group of kids to work with. I think our culture is really good right now and the work ethic is exemplary. Our goaltending, for the first time in a few years, really looks strong.”

The goaltending is led by junior Logan Stein and sophomore Noah Giesbrecht. Stein got off to a strong start in the first game against Miami (Ohio), making 33 saves in the 2-2 tie. He earned CCHA Goalie of the Week honors for his performance.

“I think it was just good for our confidence as a team and me personally,” Stein said of the performance. “I mean. I just wanted to go out there and be me and do my best. I think the best version of me gives us a really good chance to win and I think that’s what I did on Saturday.”

Puck drop for the home opener against Michigan Tech is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. Friday night. The Bulldogs will also host Western Michigan on Saturday night at 7:07 p.m.
