Harbor Springs Girls Golf Caps Off Memorable Season With 8th Place Finish at States

HARBOR SPRINGS – The Harbor Springs girls golf team capped off a memorable 2022 season over the weekend with an 8th place finish in Div. 4 at the MHSAA State Championships.

The Rams overcame some cold, wet and windy conditions at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale while doing so.

Individually, senior Taylore Wilson finished tied for ninth in the state with a two-round score of 167.

Harbor Springs also won the Lake Michigan Conference title and the regional championship this season.

Head coach Pete Kelbel said he was excited to place in the top 10 and achieve all the team goals for this year’s seniors.

“I had my five seniors and I knew I had a good chance to win the league and the regional but I knew it would be real hard,” said Kelbel. “Traverse City St. Francis has been a real tough team for us to get by and they’ve beaten us plenty. So we wanted to work extra hard and we got our goals.”

“My freshman year I didn’t even know what a hybrid was. I didn’t know what a pitching wedge or a sand wedge was for,” said senior Savanah Maki. “Now I pretty much know the whole rule book like front to back. So I think I’ve just come a long way.”

Harbor Springs has made it to states nine of the past 11 seasons.
