Ferris State Women’s Soccer Opens GLIAC Tournament With Win Over Michigan Tech

BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State Bulldogs advanced to the GLIAC Soccer Tournament semifinals with a 3-1 triumph over visiting Michigan Tech on Tuesday afternoon.

Avery Comartin notched a goal and an assist to pace the Bulldogs offense.  Katie Nestico had a pair of assists, while the other two goals were scored by Payton Price and Bella Vallone.  For Comartin and Vallone, those scores were each the first collegiate goals of their careers.  Nikki May also had an assist for Ferris State.

Ferris State took a 1-0 lead into halftime on Comartin’s goal, which just bounced over the goal line after an attempted clear deflected off of her and in.

Early in the second half, Price converted a nice crossing pass from Comartin to make it 2-0 Bulldogs.

The lone Michigan Tech goal was scored by Stephanie Yeager on a penalty kick in the second half to cut the Ferris State lead to 2-1.

Vallone provided the insurance goal for Ferris State late in the second half.

The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies, 17-13, and had a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Ferris State will now face Grand Valley State in the GLIAC semifinals on Friday in Allendale. The Lakers beat Purdue Northwest 7-0 in the GLIAC quarterfinals.
