Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Preps For State Semis

MT. PLEASANT – The Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart volleyball team is in the state semifinals for a second straight season after a big win over Leland in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The Irish came up short against Inland Lakes in the semifinals last season and said they feel that experience prepared them well for this year’s semifinal.

“Last year I think we were just really nervous. I mean we’ve never gotten that far before and we didn’t really know what to expect,” said senior Eliza Pieratt. “But this year I think we’re going to be definitely a little bit calmer, know what to expect and just go into it with a positive, confident mindset.”

“I’m just so happy with this team. They’re a fun group,” said head coach Krista Davis. “It’s just a fun group and I think they work really well together and that’s why I think that they’ve gelled so well this year.”

The Irish will face Crystal Falls Forest Park in the semifinal game. This is Forest Park’s first trip to the semifinals since 2015. The Trojans beat Inland Lakes in the state quarterfinals.

First serve between the Trojans and Irish is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
